------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dead
silence as the three trudge into the lair.
Warren casually slumping
into the nearest chair.
Moving to flick on the Playstation when
he's stopped
by Jonathan grabbing his
wrist.
"What?"
"You know
what."
"No, I don't. Care to enlighten me?"
"You
lied to us." Andrew, whining, slinking up to
Jonathan's side and
Warren rolls his eyes even as
Jonathan gives that irritating little
sage nod of his.
"Is _that_ what this is all about?
Look...."
"No. Warren, this isn't something you can joke
and
insult your way out of," Jonathan says, arms
crossed
over his chest. Staring down, and for a moment
Warren
wants to stand again. Because he _hates_ it when
that
runt looks down on him. Can't stand it. "You lied
to
us. We agreed that we weren't going to kill
her."
"God... you just don't get it, do you? We're EVIL.
It's what we DO. What we're expected to do. We want
to
get her out of the way, don't we?"
"Not like
that!"
"Look, I know you got a hard-on for her
but...."
"I do not! I'm just saying...." Jonathan grasps
for
words for a moment. Finally snapping as Warren
starts
silently mocking him. "Look at the
goddamn
whiteboard! It was never our intent to kill.
Anyone.
Ever. Even Buffy."
"Fine." The word sighed
as Warren starts to swivel
the chair away from
them.
"And you _lied_ to us," Andrew pipes up again.
Sounding genuinely hurt.
"Yea. You don't lie to
your partners in crime."
And this time Warren has to fight not
to roll his
eyes. To snap, "how naive are you!?" Because
from
his vast knowledge of pop culture, villains
double
cross one another all the time. Just another part
of
being evil. He knows this. But if they're too dumb
to
realize....
Hell, let them live in their rose coloured world.
He
knows. And he's going to come out on top and
he's
going to own this whole damn town.
It's that
simple.
"Right." Voice soft, sounding distant in his
own
ears as he says exactly what they want to hear.
"You
don't lie to your partners. It won't happen
again,
guys. I swear."
Cool, casual smile on
Warren's part and a cautious
glance passes between Jonathan and
Andrew before they
nod as well. Quiet agreement. All things
forgiven.
And Warren's smile widens.
All things
forgiven. Just like that.
