THE VAMPIRE SLAYERPart6

"That is so cool!"Andrew said.

Jonathan had just told Andrew the whole story about the night before.He took the news quite well.

"I mean that is like so...cool,"Andrew said.

"I know,"Jonathan said in a less enthusiastic voice,"I'm not sure what's going on with me...I mean yesterday morning I was just Jonathan.Now I'm...well I'm not sure what I am,".

Andrew said,"Did that weird guy tell you anything else?".

Jonathan reached into his pocket and pulled out the peice of paper Merrick had gave him and said,"Merrick gave me this address.I have to go meet him there tomorrow,".

"Please take me with you!Please!"Andrew begged.

Jonathan said,"I'm not sure that would be a good idea.I mean Merrick told me that I'm not to tell anyone that I'm the Slayer,".

Andrew asked,"Are you sure that this guy is telling you the whole truth?I mean I believe you...but what if this guy was just pulling your chain?".

"It wasn't a trick.It was real,very real.I mean the vampire just exploded into dust!"Jonathan explained.

"Just one question.What are vampires doing in sunny California?"Andrew asked.

"I dunno.Merrick needs to answer alot of questions.Now you've got to promise not to tell anyone about this,"Jonathan said.

Andrew mimed zipping his mouth closed and then buttoning it.He laughed and said,"I promise".

There was silence for a couple of seconds and then Andrew said,"I don't want you to go see that guy again until we...you know what you're dealing with,".

Jonathan looked puzzled and asked,"What do you suggest?".

Andrew suggested,"Maybe we could go to the public library.We can do like research stuff about vampires and we could look into the history of this town.I mean there's gotta be a reason why vamps are staying in Sunnydale,".

Jonathan and Andrew decided to go to the public library together.The public library was huge and it took a while to find what they were looking for.Eventually they found a bookcase at the back of the library filled with occult books.

"I guess this is where we start looking,"Jonathan said.

They gathered together several books about vampires.Some of the books were very thick and filled with useful facts.

After several hours Jonathan found something interesting.He turned to Andrew and said,"The books say that before man existed the world was the home of the demons.They were very large and powerful blah blah blah.Eventually the demons lost their hold on this reality and moved into another one.Hell.When the demons started to leave the Earth man and other mortal animals started to rise, but the last demon to leave this reality fed from a human and mixed their blood with it.This man was a-".

"Vampire?" Andrew asked.

"Right,"Jonathan said,"The vampire bit other men and mixed his blood with them.Eventually these vampires started to appear all over the world,".

"Wow!"Andrew said impressed,"I had no idea that it was such a complicated story,".

Jonathan asked,"Did you find anything about this town,".

Andrew said,"I found only reference in the history section.It was kinda vague.It said that the Spanish explorers who first settled here called the town Boca del Infierno,".

Jonathan looked puzzled again and asked,"What does that mean?".

"It means Hellmouth, the mouth of Hell,"Andrew answered.

THE VAMPIRE SLAYERPart7

It was Sunday morning now.Jonathan and Andrew were travelling to the address written on the paper.They expected the address to lead to an apartment or a house but it lead them to an abandoned warehouse.

"Erm..okay.This looks nice and scary,"Andrew said as he stared up at the warehouse.

"Come on.Lets go in,"Jonathan said.He tried to open the front door but it was locked.

"Maybe there's another way in?"Andrew suggested.

Jonathan and Andrew walked to the back of the warehouse,there they found a door which was ajar.

Jonathan turned to Andrew and said,"Before we go in I just want you to know that you don't have to do this,".

"Don't worry.I want to do this,"Andrew said.

When they opened the door and walked into the warehouse they noticed that there was a large wooden chest lying in the middle of the floor.The rest of the warehouse was littered with packing crates and cardboard boxes.

"You were supposed to come alone!"a voice said which startled both Jonathan and Andrew.They looked around to see Merrick sitting on a crate.

"Erm...I'm sorry but-"Jonathan started to explain before he was interrupted.

Merrick snapped,"That's no excuse a Slayer cannot afford the luxury of companionship,".

"Hi I'm Andrew,"Andrew said putting his hand forward expecting Merrick to shake it.

"I'm sorry child but this is not a youth club,"Merrick explained,"Now please leave,".

Andrew started to leave,but Jonathan tried to stop him.Andrew explained,"It's okay.I'll see you at school tomorrow,".

When Andrew left closing the warehouse door behind him Jonathan gave Merrick a scornful look and said,"Who do you think you are talking to him like that?".

Merrick said,"I instructed you to tell nobody about this.I'm your Watcher and I expect my instructions to be obeyed,".

Jonathan was now rather annoyed and said,"Listen...Merrick.I think maybe there's been a big mistake here, I mean, I appreciate that there's real vampires and that you're on this big holy mission and all that...but I don't think I'm up to this, and just between us neither do you,".

Merrick said,"It's true, you're not what I expected.Untrained,clumsy.Perhaps the most strangest candidate in all my years as a Watcher.I guess there's nothing to talk about,".

Jonathan said,"Cool!I'll be leaving now,".

Before Jonathan could move away Merrick said,"Oh there is one more thing,".Merrick then drew a knife from his pocket and threw it at Jonathan's head.

To his own surprise Jonathan caught the knife just before it hit his face.He was so shocked that he shouted,"Oh my God!You threw a knife at my head!".

Merrick chuckled like a mad man and said,"And you caught it.Don't you se?Only the chosen one could do that.You are the Slayer,".

Jonathan was by this stage really angry that Merrick had thrown a knife at him just to test his reflexes.He punched Merrick hard in the nose.He heard a large crack sound and Merrick fell to the floor.

"Oops.I'm sorry,"Jonathan apologised,"To tell you the truth I've never hit anyone before,".

Merrick joked,"You're very good at it,".

Jonathan explained,"What I mean is I can't believe I can hit like that,".

Merrick was now serious again and said,"Never underestimate yourself Jonathan.You've got abilities you've only begun to tap.Reserves of mental and physical prowess you've never dreamt of,".

"Yeah right,"Jonathan said.

Merrick said,"I apologise for the abrupt methods I've had to use to jump-start those powers.That is why I brought you here today,to start your training,".

"So this batcave-like atmosphere...is like,supposed to be a place to train?"Jonathan asked.

"Exactly,"Merrick said,"But we don't have much time.I fear that a very dark power is about to rise soon in Sunnydale,".

The High school bell rang and hundreds of students poured out of the school building.Andrew and Jonathan were among them.

"He threw the knife at your head?"Andrew asked shocked.It was now Monday afternoon and Jonathan had just explained to him the events at the warehouse.

Jonathan said,"Yeah.He said it was some kind of reflex test.After that he trained me for like three hours,".

Andrew was impressed,"Wow.You're like the Karate Kid,".

"I'm way stronger than the Karate Kid...or at least I will be when I finish my training,"Jonathan said.

"When are you going to the warehouse again?"Andrew asked.

"Right now,"Jonathan answered,"Merrick says that I have to train one hour everyday after school,".

"Oh,"Andrew said dissapointed,"I guess me and you can hang out another time,".

Jonathan walked to the warehouse alone.When he got there Merrick was already waiting for him.

Before Merrick could say anything Jonathan walked up to him and asked him a question,"Merrick what's a Hellmouth?".

Merrick explained,"This town is built on the Hellmouth.The Hellmouth is a portal to the demon dimensions.Mystical energy is very potent in this area around the Hellmouth.That is why the vampires are gathered together in this town,".

"Oh.I was just wondering that's all,"Jonathan said.

Merrick asked,"Have you read today's newspaper?".

Jonathan answered,"No.Why?".

Merrick handed him a newspaper.The front page read "MORE FOUND DEAD NEAR CANAL".

Jonathan said,"That guy who has found dead the other night was found by the canal too.Do you think that there's a connection between these deaths?".

"Yes,"Merrick said,"Perhaps the vampire's lair is near the canal,".

"The canal is near the park.It must be easy for the vamps to feed there because they can just grab people who are walking alone in the park,"Jonathan guessed.

"You are learning fast Slayer,"Merrick said.His voice almost sounded impressed,"Tonight just after dark we will go the canal.To patrol,".

Jonathan was now scared,"But...but I'm not ready.I need to know more about my own skills and strength before I even start to-".

Merrick interrupted Jonathan and said,"Jonathan these vampires in town are only the beginning...you have no idea about what 's to come,".

Jonathan gulped and said,"Okay.Let's do this.We'll wait until nightfall then we'll go out to the canal,".

Merrick said,"No.There is something else we must do first,".

THE VAMPIRE SLAYERPart 9

Nightfall was approaching and Jonathan and Merrick were sat in Merrick's car.

"Where are we going?"Jonathan asked.

Merrick sounded annoyed,"You ask too many questions Slayer,".

"Considering that I am the chosen one it wouldn't hurt for you to be nice to me,"Jonathan said.

Merrick said,"Do you know how many Slayers I've trained in my time?Five and they worked harder than you've ever worked in your life.I saw all five of them ripped apart.Do you honestly think that staking a vampire in the stomach and punching me in the nose qualifies you as a warrior?".

Jonathan said,"You don't have to be so sarcastic,".

Suddenly the car stopped.Merrick stepped out of the car and said,"Stay here,".Merrick then walked into a church.

Jonathan sat in the car and looked around.Across from the church he saw a telephone box.He ignored what Merrick said and walked over to the phone box.He put some money into the phone and lifted up the receiver,he dialed a number and waited for a reply.

"Hello?"the voice on the phone asked.

"Hi Andrew.I'm sorry to phone you but I'd just like to tell you that I'm going to the canal,"Jonathan said.

"Oh,"Andrew said confused,"Why?".

"Some Slayer stuff,"Jonathan answered,"Merrick thinks there might be some vampire nest near the canal,".

"Do you want me to come along?"Andrew asked hopefully.

"No,"Jonathan said,"I don't want you getting hurt.I just wanted to tell you
where I was in case I don't come back,".

"Good luck,"Andrew said before putting the phone down.

Jonathan walked back to the car.He was so worried.What if he didn't survive?What if he was killed like all the other Slayers?

When Merrick got back in the car Jonathan noticed that he had several bottles with him."What's in the bottles?"Jonathan asked.

"Holy water,"Merrick answered,"Vampires can be killed by stakes,sunlight,holy water and beheading.Its all written in the Chronicles back at the warehouse,".

The car was moving again.Eventually they parked near the canal.

Merrick handed Jonathan a wooden stake and said,"Are you ready for your first patrol Slayer?".

THE VAMPIRE SLAYERpart10

Jontathan stepped out of the car and said,"What do we do now?".

Merrick said,"It would be best if we split up,then we can cover more ground,".

"Are you crazy?"Jonathan asked,"I can't go out in the dark on my own,".

Merrick said,"You must understand Jonathan,I won't always be there to guide you,".

They seperated.Merrick went near the outskirts of the park and Jonathan walked near the canal.Jonathan was certain that he could hear a terrible thumping sound, but it was only the sound of his beating heart.

He heard another sound,it was a rustling sound hear the bushes."Who's there?" he asked.Suddenly something came out of the bushes,Jonathan lifted his stake,but he only saw a cat come out of the bushes.

"Silly kitty!" he said to the cat.

He heard another sound and something came out of the bushes.This was not a cat.It was Luke,one of the Master vampire's minions.

Luke laughed,"A bit late for kid to be alone near the canal isn't it?".

The site of the Luke's vampire fangs gave Jonathan the adrenaline rush to attack the vampire.he lifted his stake and plunged it at Luke, but Luke was fast and dodged to the side.

"Oh look how sweet a little kiddy pretending to be a Slayer,"Luke said.

"I am the Slayer!,"Jonathan said.He pulled a bottle of holy water from his pocket and threw it at Luke's face.

As Luke's face burned he yelled,"It burns.You will pay dearly for this child!".

Jonathan began to run,the vampire was much taller than him and much stronger so he had to run fast.Before he could run any further another vampire ran in front of him.Jonathan plunged the stake into the vampire's chest and he burst into a cloud of dust.

"You killed my brother Slayer!"Luke said as he ran at Jonathan.

Jonathan was impressed at his onw strentght and agility.he span round and kicked Luke in the chest.When luke fell to the ground Jonathan started to run again.

"Gotta find Merrick,"Jonathan said to himself.

Merrick was still in the park and hadn't heard Jonathan's nearby struggle.He heard a swift sound behind him.Merrick span round to see what was behind him.

"Merrick?"a cackling voice said,"It's been such a long time,".It was the Master.

"Oh no!It's worse than I thought,"Merrick said,"I knew that a great evil had come to this town,but I did not imagine that I would be facing you again,".

The Master laughed,"It's a beautiful night.The dark is so thick with life,like soil...like blood.I trust that your new Slayer is nearby.Don't worry he'll be dead by tonight,just like you will be,".

Merrick said defiantly,"No,this one may surprise you.He's not like the others.He doesn't play by the rules.I don't think even he knows he strong he is,".

The Master said,"Stop the sentimental crap Merrick.It doesn't suit you,".

Jonathan ran out of the bushes and shouted,"Merrick!".

Merrick began to panic and said,"Get away from here boy.I'm sorry but the situation is worse than I thought,".

The Master turned to Jonathan and said,"Ignore Merrick child.He's a drooling old fool.I'm going to kill him and then drink your heart through your neck!".

Merrick shouted to Jonathan,"For once in your life do as you are told boy!Get out of here!".Before Merrick could say anything more the Master descended on Merrick and bit his neck.Merrick fell to the floor and said with his last dying breath,"Go boy now!".

Jonathan froze,he could not believe what he had just witnessed.Even as the Master approached him Jonathan could not move.

The Master said,"Now boy I kill you.It's been a while since I've killed a Slayer,".

Something hit the back of the Master's head and the Master fell face down to the floor.It was a rock.but who threw it?

"Come on Jonathan lets go!" a familiar voice shouted.It was Andrew who threw the rock at the Master's head.

Andrew grabbed Jonathan's arm and they ran as fast as they could.

Luke appeared and helped the Master to his feet,"Master, shall I go after them?".

"No!"the Master instructed,"I shall kill him soon enough!".
