Buffy encounters a cowboy vamp, Lyle Gorch, in the mall. He escapes. Back at school the students are given eggs to look after in Sex Ed class by Mr Whitmore.

Buffy is neglecting her patrols somewhat, as she and Angel almost constantly lock lips. That night her egg hatches, and tentacles slide over her face. The next morning she and Willow are sluggish, and Xander reveals he boiled his egg for safety. The next night Buffy’s egg (Eggbert) hatches a facecrawler type thing, which she kills. All the students and teachers have been taken over by Mr Whitmore’s creatures! Buffy and Xander are the only ones left, and they discover that everyone is digging up eggs beneath the school. There’s a really big, fleshy thing under the floor down there. Lyle and his brother Tector show up and battle Buffy, but Tector falls prey to the Cthulhu-like beast. Buffy gets yanked down there too, but takes a pickaxe. She emerges covered in black bile - Lyle takes one look and scarpers, while everyone else wakes up. Giles tells everyone that it was a gas leak. Joyce grounds Buffy until the end of time.

Review:
Quite unbelievably silly, this mutant hybrid of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Aliens and Cthulhu is only saved by the great dialogue. Joyce is becoming a particularly unsympathetic character, and the cowboy vamps are just tacked on in a most ungainly fashion.

Best line: Xander: “Apparently Buffy has decided the problem with the English language is all those pesky words. You... Angel... big... smoochies?”

Trivia: Lyle Gorch returns in the season three episode Homecoming
