Willow is tutoring dumb basketball jock Percy West, but he refuses to
work. She is becoming fed up with her boring, reliable image.
Anya
(from "The Wish") approaches her and tricks her into helping cast a spell
to get Anya’s pendant back. Instead, the spell draws Evil Willow into
Sunnydale. Percy sees Evil Willow at the Bronze, but she beats him up. Buffy
and Xander arrive and are shocked to see her as a vampire. As the Slayerettes
mourn, Willow turns up. Evil Willow begins recruiting vampires in order to take
over the Bronze, and kidnaps Willow, but she manages to tranquillise her. She
swaps clothes and enters the Bronze, managing to send a few vamps outside to
get slain. Cordelia finds Evil Willow locked up, lets her out and gets hunted
for her trouble. Wes saves her. Willow is uncovered by Anya at the Bronze, so
the gang bust in and save the day. Anya unwillingly helps Giles and Willow cast
a spell to send Evil Willow back - she returns just in time to get staked by
Oz.
Review:
It seems, on paper, to be a pretty cheesy excuse to bring Evil Willow back just
because she was a popular character, but if anyone can work a thoroughly
entertaining episode around that premise, Joss Whedon can. And does. In spades.
His trademark dialogue comes thick and fast, and once again serves to remind us
all why he earns the big bucks.
Best line:
Willow: “I feel like staying at home. And doing my homework. And flossing. And
dying a virgin.”
Evil Willow: “Oh, f-” (her last words)
Bloopers:
Xander tries to use a cross on Willow (the wrong Willow, as it happens). It
raises an interesting question - would a Jewish vampire need a St David’s star
to cower from?
Trivia:
Willow wanted to be a florist when she was young.
