While Buffy explains the state of play to the Scooby Gang, Riley
bursts in. His confusion is not eased when he sees Spike, who sidles out. He
refuses to believe Walsh is evil, and leaves.
A
wandering Adam encounters a small boy ("What am I?" "A
monster."), and Doctor ? notices Walsh's body, and Adam's absence. The
gang crash at Xander's for safety, and see a news story about a small boy who
was skewered and mutilated. Buff assumes it was a Polgara demon, and checks out
the murder scene, as does Riley and co. Riley tells her Walsh is dead. Next
Buffy checks out the renamed 'Willy's Place', and Riley appears again, sweaty
and shaking. He doesn't know what or who to believe any more. Xander and Buffy
infiltrate the Initiative, where they overhear something about drugged food,
while Willow and Tara cast a spell to find demonic energy. Tara secretly
sabotages the spell. Buffy grills Doc Angleman, then a sickly Riley turns up,
as does Adam, who is on a quest for knowledge. During the fight, Adam skewers
the Doc and Riley, and escapes. Riley is taken to a military hospital, where
Buffy cannot follow.
Review:
It has to be said - Adam is not the best villain ever, which is why it's a
little odd he becomes such a regular foe in future episodes. Instead of getting
neatly tied up, the Initiative plot-thread limps on a little aimlessly, and
Willow and Tara's uneventful subplot is getting dull. Buffy seems to be losing
it's way.
Best line:
Anya to Buffy: "You really should get yourself a boring boyfriend. Like
Xander. *pause* You can't have Xander.”

Trivia:
Yet again, Xander refers to the "Scooby Gang".
Pop culture reference (Buffy): “And the next thing I know, it's raining
monsters.” Xander: “Hallelujah.” (referring to that classic Weathergirls song.)
