Buffy forces Angel to feed upon her to save his life, which leaves her
unconscious. He takes her to hospital, the Scooby Gang appear and berate him,
and he leaves.
The
Mayor is also at the hospital, standing devastated next to a comatose Faith.
Both sides prepare for the ascension. At the Mayor’s speech, there’s an eclipse
and the change comes over the Mayor sooner than he expected. He turns into a
giant snake demon, a gang of vamps appear, then the graduating class all pull
weapons from under their robes. A pitched battle follows, during which Larry is
hit hard, Harmony is bitten by a vamp, and Snyder is eaten by the Mayor. Buffy
taunts the snake with Faith’s dagger, then leads him through the school, into
the library, which is packed with explosives. Boom.
Review:
Phew. An explosive end to the second series, with the biggest battle in Buffy
history. Nothing will be the same again - Angel has his own series, Buffy goes
to college. But hey - Amy’s still a rat. This episode was postponed in the
States, and Joss Whedon famously recommended that fans: ”Bootleg the puppy.”
Best line:
Mayor Wilkins: “Oh gosh.” (his final words.)
Oz: “Guys. Take a moment to deal with all this. We survived.”
Buffy: “It was a hell of a battle.”
Oz: “Not the battle. High School.”

Trivia:
Cordelia slays her first vampire.
Pop culture reference: “Looks like someone’s been eating his spinach.”
Once more Xander uses the military knowledge he accrued during Halloween.
This all happened 100 years to the day after Mayor Wilkins founded Sunnydale.
“Little Miss Muffet counting down from seven three oh.” (Faith in Buffy’s
dream.) A special prize to the person who finds out exactly what the hell this
means.
The Mutant Enemy logo wears a little graduation cap. Cute.
