Scott breaks up with Buffy just before the Homecoming dance, and to
make matters worse Mr Trick has assembled a group of mercenaries (including old
friend Lyle Gorch from Bad Eggs) to kill her for ‘SlayerFest 98’.
Buffy
decides to run against Cordelia for Homecoming Queen, which divides the
Slayerettes. As Willow and Xander get dressed up for the dance they suddenly
kiss! Buffy and Cordelia get a limo to the dance - Faith isn’t in it but some
corsages are. The limo unexpectedly drops them in the middle of the woods and
they are hunted by the various mercs. One by one Buffy takes them out, and she
and Cordelia make it to the dance to discover the Queen voting is a tie -
between the other two contestants. Tsk. Meanwhile Mr Trick has been arrested
and brought before the Mayor, who offers him a job.
Review:
Fantastic fun throughout, with stand-out scenes being Cordelia’s gutsy bluff
against Lyle, Mr Trick’s introduction to SlayerFest 98 and our first glimpse of
the genial Mayor. Buffy doesn’t get much more, well, fun.
Best line:
Tuff Buffy: “You've awakened the Prom Queen within. And that crown is going to
be mine.”

Trivia:
Chad Stahelski plays yellow, spiny-headed comedy demon Kulak (a merc) in this
episode. His usual role, however, is David Boreanaz's stunt double.
Buffy was the Prom Princess and the Fiesta Queen at her last school in LA,
Hemery High.
Victim Johnny spotted! Good lad.
