A comatose Faith is having nightmares about Faith, while Buffy hasn't
slept for three days worrying about Riley. While on patrol, Buffy Willow and
Xander find a demon strung up and dissected by Adam.
Riley
leaves hospital (against the will of his Initiative buddies) and goes to Buffy.
Faith awakens, and slowly learns what has happened while she was out. A nurse
at the hospital calls the Watcher Council, while Faith spies on the
Slayerettes. Buffy gets a call warning her Faith is active, and at school she
turns up. Their fight is interrupted by the cops, and Faith escapes. A demon
approaches her with a parcel, claiming to be from a friend. Before he can
finish his sentence Faith snaps his neck and takes it. It's a videotape of the
Mayor warning Faith that, because he's dead, she may not have long either. He's
given her a gift, a strange little metal thing. When Giles gets home, three
Council men are waiting. Faith bursts into Joyce's house, ties her up and vents
her spleen about Buffy, who bursts in through the window and battles the rogue
Slayer. Faith puts the device in her hand and grabs Buffy's - there's a flash
of light, then Buffy crushes the gizmo. The police arrive to take Faith away,
but the Slayers have swapped bodies!
Review:
Riley questions his role in life, and the Initiative, and we've all but stopped
caring. Faith was just the shot in the arm the season needed, and this
two-parter (concluding with Who Are You?) provides some much needed drama.
We're reminded that just because Spike can't hurt the Slayerettes, it doesn't
mean he has stopped hating them, and Willow and Tara's relationship meanders
along.
Best line:
Buffy (or is it?): "Five by five." (Faith's catchphrase.)

Pop culture reference: “Will, you haven't seen this Adam thing. He's the
Terminator without the bashful charm.” (Buffy.)
